Parentrepreneurs

Developing and promoting entrepreneurship education has been one of the key policy objectives for the EU and Member states for many years. Besides entrepreneurship education provided by teachers at schools, entrepreneurial learning can happen almost everywhere. For example, entrepreneurial learning occurs in several situations and social interactions within families. Therefore, an entrepreneurship educator – a person who facilitates the learning process of entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and attitude in others – may be a parent who does not operate under the traditional concept of teaching. Along with formal education system, parents are passing on essential knowledge, skills and attitudes to their children through daily interactions and practices at home. For this role, parents have to be trained in the use of practical teaching methods and tools for facilitating their children in entrepreneurial learning process.

ParENTrepreneurs is an innovative project aiming at developing tools to support parents and other family members in their role as educators to foster the entrepreneurial spirit and skills of children. It will offer learning opportunities as well as the possibility for parents and other family members to assess and validate their knowledge and skills in the field. With that focus that entrepreneurship education has to be ”taught” at school and outside school, that is as a formal and non-formal education transversal content, the aim of this project is that parents have to receive a basic training to enhance and facilitate (as facilitators) the first steps of the community and society in entrepreneurial learning and attitude, so that they all acquire basic and transversal entrepreneurial skills. If this environment and its actor are not ready to transfer entrepreneurial competences, skills and knowledge, the community will not be able to start thinking, acting and seeing itself as entrepreneurial.

Project outcomes

The project will support all parents by developing training programme and methodological resources to help embed entrepreneurial learning into daily life, and provide opportunities to engage their children and other parents as well in targeted entrepreneurial learning. As a result of this project following outcomes will be produced:

  • Competence framework for key parENTrepreneurial competences
  • Training package on parENTrepreneurship education
  • Social learning platform
  • Handbook for ParENTrepreneurs peer-to-peer scheme (training the trainers)
  • Guide to validation and recognition of the programme
